Will there come a time when a visit to the doctor's office will entail a smart robot in place of the receptionist, the nurse, and even the doctor? If the time is coming, how close are we to the potential reality? These are some of the questions that people are asking today, especially given how far we have come with the use of technology and subsequent integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our daily lives. No doubt, technological growth and evolution over the years has led to related advancement in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions.
The depth of how much further AI will take us gives hope to the healthcare industry, but at what cost? There have been instances and projections where the implementation of AI in different industries has led to a relacement of human efforts and engagement. But technological advancements in many sectors over time has had similar effect, and as such, not a new or unexpected development in relation to AI. There will always be a role for the non-AI entity including but not limited to us humans. So, as much as it could be possible sometime soon to see a cute and able robot as a receptionist in a doctor's office, our thoughts are that it would still be preferable to have a regular person in the role, complete with all the requisite human emotions, still unmatched by AI, that we are accustomed to.
AI in healthcare and other industries is here to stay and will keep evolving over time. To best situate ourselves in the continually developing and changing space, it appears we need to adapt and evolve in order to not find ourselves on the outside looking desperately in.
